The IEI ETF has an average coupon of 2.3% and a distribution yield of 2.1%. This so called "bell of the curve" has yet to revert to normal levels and is slowly doing so as yields rise. So a fund like IEI which is already negative for the year, will continue to suffer losses. Buying a 5 year treasury note is not the same as buying a fund like IEI.
