The realm status is a steady "high". But do not go horde on Ravencrest, completely dead. Personally I would also recommend Ravencrest, if you're looking for an alliance-side server. Those RP servers have a high demand for cool looking gear. Wyrmrest is the best for rp, if you're horde. Warmane is not highly regarded here at all. All but one of the realms is completely P2W, and the PvP is cross-realm so you'll be at a huge disadvantage anyways. Classic WotLK should be out within the next year or so, would be better to wait for that instead. Chromie is good, but it's vanilla WoW in the WotLK client.

This will give you the widest selections of guilds to join, and the healthiest auction house, and there are really no negatives.

It’s really awful to see so many new players getting shoved into these servers that have basically no population. I hate having to explain to a new player why the vast majority of the people they are interacting with are not people they can join a guild with, or aren’t even on their server.
